What do you HOPE for?

No one ever expected much from him.

Joshua Elijah Griffin, IV is on his last chance. A stint in rehab and a transfer to a new school has scared him into putting his life on track. He’s determined to live up to his family’s expectations, but on the first day of class, Josh meets a girl, and he knows his father won’t approve, but in Carrington, he sees a kindred spirit. He's willing to give up everything to be with her.

No one ever thought she was special.

Carrington Olivia Butler is ready to shine. Always in the shadows of her siblings, she goes away to college to break out of her shell. All Carrington wants is to feel special. Josh's attention is exactly what she craves, but their intense and sometimes volatile relationship is more than what she bargained for.

Josh’s demons return, and Carrington’s feelings fade, but both aren’t ready to give up hope. They give their love one last shot to survive, but hope, may not be enough.

Hope for Her Hope Series Book 1 edition by Sydney Aaliyah Michelle Jenny Sims Literature Fiction eBooks

I really am not fond of leaving poor reviews, but I really can't find a reason to give this more than two stars. It's probably closer to 1.5. I didn't feel like there was any emotion here. There was not anything to really invest us in the characters lives. The only person I didn't mind in this entire story was Jackson. I don't have a clue what anyone saw in Carrigan and she really had no reason for her issues and attitude. The story line was also lacking. It rambled and didn't really go anywhere important. There were also many inconsistencies that a good editor should have caught, not to mention spelling and wording mistakes. Not a series I will continue.

Hope for Her Hope Series Book 1 edition by Sydney Aaliyah Michelle Jenny Sims Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

Okay, well let me start by saying I really didn't think I would like this. Something about the cover and the excerpt irked me a little.
Decided to give it a shot anyway while taking a road trip to NO and I gotta say I wasn't bored. There were more parts that I read that I enjoyed more than disliked. I started off liking Carrington, but as the story progressed her selfishness and some of the things she'd say/do/think had me rolling my eyes at her. As much as I wanted to like Josh, I think I felt pity and sorrow for him more. He didn't have a good support system at all, especially for someone with so many obvious issues. I'm going to hold off and saying anymore, especially about Jackson until I read the second part later tonight. All in all, I rated this one a 3 because there were parts I liked more than disliked. And I even had a time or 2 were I got teary-eyed, so that's a plus.
Sydney Aaliyah Michelle is a gifted writer and i admit that this story took some unexpected turns.

[SPOILERS]

But, Josh's story is sad and Carrington- her back and forth between the friends is strange and unsettling.

I wish SAM had fleshed out Josh's backstory a little more as there must be more to the level of his rebellion. And what about his sisters, and brother-in-law? His mother's drinking. There just wasn't enough meat around those issues. And those issue seem too important to be washed over.

Then Carrington- her infatuation with Jackson is weird. They barely speak in the book but he loves her? She's pining for him? The triangle is unnecessary and a skilled editor would have been able to work it out better or would have suggested that it be removed. The story would have been stronger if Josh simply THOUGHT it was happening as it would have explained his clinginess...

I do like the way Josh's vice is now Carrington and he joneses for her in the same way he would for drugs.

Again, she is a skilled writer who could use a more detailed-oriented editor.
I was so surprised at this book. This is not just another mere love story. Some parts of this destroyed me others had me laughing to myself (Cray Cray I know). Then some had me like oh yeah that couldn't have been me.

I love the cover it pulled me in initially. Then the story began to unfold and each scene burst from the pages. The storyline was solid and gave you everything you needed but had just enough to keep you looking for more.

I recommend this book to anyone who wants the next big romantic, devastatingly, awesome book!
This was my first story I read by this author and it took me by surprise. I read all of the other reviews and decided to give the book a try and read it for myself. Josh was such a sad character I found myself angry with him and his lack of strength, then I would feel sorry for him because depended so much on other people to dictate his moods. Carrington reminded me of my daughter and I found her character funny, and easy to relate with. she is the typical college girl trying to find herself and fell in love with a boy who was "intense." I felt so many emotions reading this story and when it was done I was raw and emotional. I loved this story so much and now I am starting on the second one that I guess is dealing with Jackson, who I felt sorry for because he was just a good guy trying to look out for his friend. If you are on the fence about buying this book, don't be, buy it and enjoy the ride Sydney Aaliyah Michelle takes you on. Yes others are not happy with the editing, but the story itself is so pure and so worth it!!!!
A Review of Hope For Her (Hope Series Book #1) by Sydney Aaliyah Michelle

Along the lines of Romeo and Juliet - 4.5 stars

This book is one giant, emotionally packed, roller coaster read, touching on so many hot-topic problems for young adults. Joshua has many issues that he needs to deal with, but without a good support system it is a very slippery slope. I have to say, I wasn't very impressed with his father and all the pressure he puts on his son.

When he meets Carrington at his new college, he feels she is the answer to his needs. I felt that she was somewhat selfish at times and not exactly the best person to be around Joshua. I now have all four books in this series and look forward to reading the rest of them to see how things actually work out. But, be ready to feel blindsided at the end of this first book and have a box of tissues available.

**Honest review voluntarily provided for purchased product.**
A very enjoyable romance story about two torn people Josh a multimillionaire's son and Carrington a middle class black female with problems with their families. Josh with a history of drugs and alcohol and Carrington feeling that her mother was happy to see her leaving finally the home at she born during her mother's change in life. Josh's mother committed suicide and left a message for him on his phone and with a very dysfunctional Patriarch father who had all of his children afraid of him ,who thought that with his money he could solve all of his children problems which they had many instead of loving them. Carr and Josh meets on campus and have an attraction immediately, she is the answer to Josh he thinks problems and she does make them better. But his deep rooted problem came from his father who looked at him as a failure and told him that as much as possible along with his drug problems. Josh's father was against his relationship with Carrington due to her race which would put a blemish on his family.
I really am not fond of leaving poor reviews, but I really can't find a reason to give this more than two stars. It's probably closer to 1.5. I didn't feel like there was any emotion here. There was not anything to really invest us in the characters lives. The only person I didn't mind in this entire story was Jackson.
